
Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Rema have made history by becoming the first winners of the newly introduced Billboard Music Awards (BMAs) for Afrobeats. The ceremony took place at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Burna Boy received the ‘Top Afrobeats Artiste’ award, triumphing over fellow Nigerians Wizkid and Tems. In response to his win, Burna Boy dedicated the award to African artists and expressed optimism about the future. Rema also secured an award for ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ for his global hit ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez. Morgan Wallen emerged as the night’s top winner with 11 awards.
